Professional Biography

Dr. Barzilai is a dermatology resident at Brown University Department of Dermatology. In 2002, Dr. Barzilai founded “Evidence-Based Dermatology” (http://ebderm.org), with a mission to teach and disseminate evidence-based medicine (EBM) in dermatology. Dr. Barzilai maintains broad research interests in dermato-epidemiology, health services research, outcomes, public health, and EBM. His Ph.D. work established U.S. variation in melanoma surveillance in a population-based sample and validated the sensitivity of Medicare claims for identifying patients with melanoma. These studies were among the first to utilize the SEER-Medicare database for dermatological research. Dr. Barzilai is a member of the Society for Investigative Dermatology and American Academy of Dermatology. His clinical interests include medical dermatology, resident education, utilizing technology to promote dermatology teaching and practice, and the medical humanities.
